- Beneath the Surface -NORTHEN KAZAKSTAN
This documentary photo series explores Karaganda, Kazakhstan, a city whose identity has long been shaped by coal mining and heavy industry. Once a major centre of the Soviet Union's industrial expansion, the region remains deeply connected to its mining heritage, where vast industrial landscapes stand alongside the communities built to serve them.
Drawn by reports of fatal mining accidents and longstanding concerns over safety standards in parts of the industry, I travelled to Karaganda to document the landscapes and lives at the heart of Kazakhstan's industrial economy.
A photo series taken in north Kazakhstan where I set out to shoot the industrial heartlands of the country, I lasted a week before they arrested and interrogated me for being a western agent. sadly wasn’t granted access to any factories or mines but got some great results in short time spent there before I got recommended to leave the country - 2025
